One of the best aspects of combines will always be the chance to see what recruiting experts consider to be the top flight prospects. What is often lost is the fact that recruits who are under the radar get a chance to shine.

On Sunday, stars and sleepers alike braved the rain to come to Piscataway, N.J., to compete in the Scout.Com All-American Combine. So many players stood out that we have to have separate offensive and defensive breakdowns.

Zane Parr

The defensive line had a tough task of competing against an all-star line up of offensive linemen. Nobody looked the part any better than Williamsport, Pa., defensive tackle Zane Parr. At an imposing 6-foot-4 and 288 pounds, Parr ran a 5.03 forty-yard dash, 4.75 shuttle and a 7.78 L-cone. He then jumped 8-2 in the standing broad jump and posted a 30” vertical. During the one-on-one portion of the combine, Parr wreaked havoc. Kevin Brown of Canarsie, N.Y. showed why he has earned a few early offers. Brown is tremendously strong and gets a great up field push. Brown checked in at 6-2.5 and 292 pounds. Ronnie Cameron of Holy Trinity, N.Y., checked in at 6-2 and 235 pounds. He posted a 4.40 shuttle, 8-8 standing broad jump and a 31” vertical. Corey Eason of Mansfield, Mass., and his 6-foot-4 frame, showed well in the one-on-one’s as well.

The linebacking corps had trouble covering the running backs during the one-on-one’s, but the one linebacker that had no trouble also tested the best. C.J. Marck of Pennsbury, Pa., has an impressive highlight film, but he’s even more impressive in person. Marck, 6-1, and 220 pounds, of chiseled muscle ran a 4.63 forty-yard dash, 4.31 shuttle and 7.25 L-cone. He posted a 9-4 standing broad jump and a 30.5” vertical. Eteyen Edet, 6-0.5 and 230 pounds, from Susan E. Wagner, N.Y., did not test through the roof but he showed great cover skills. Two kids who showed tremendous

competitiveness all day, may not have tested great but they busted their humps and showed a lot of heart were Owen Thomas of Parkland, Pa., and Xzavier Hunter of Harrisburg, Pa. Class of 2008 prospect Isaiah Fleming of Newark, Del., will be a safety at the next level, but on Sunday he worked out as a linebacker. Fleming checked in at 5-11 and 197 pounds. He ran a 4.62 forty-yard dash and a 4.37 shuttle. He also posted a 9-10 standing broad jump and a 34.5” vertical.

John Dempsey

The defensive backfield featured a number of prospects who may not have been household names prior to Sunday, but they are sure to see their stock rise now. Cardinal O’Hara, Pa., safety John Dempsey put on a testing clinic. He ran a 4.46 forty-yard dash, 4.03 shuttle, and a 6.69 L-Cone. He then posted a 9-8 standing broad jump and a 35” vertical. Daryl Robinson of Northeast catholic in Philadelphia, Pa., ran a 4.47 forty-yard dash, 4.56 shuttle and a 7.23 L-cone. He also posted a 34” vertical. Calvin Otis of Lawrenceville Prep, N.J., was a force in the one-on-one’s. He showed great awareness and terrific closing speed. Phillip Shirdan of Monsignor Bonnor, Pa., put himself on the map with a solid performance. Shirdan, 6-1 and 181 pounds, ran a 4.50 shuttle and a 7.43 L-cone. He also posted a 10-3 standing broad jump and a 33” vertical. He looked great in the one-on-one’s breaking up several passes. Johnathan Blassingame of Plainsboro, N.J., checked in at 5-10.5 and 160 pounds. He ran a 4.79 forty-yard dash and posted a 9-1 standing broad jump and a 31” vertical. Justin Sinclair of The Peddie School, N.J., doesn’t possess ideal size at 5-5, 150 pounds, but the kid can flat out cover. He ran a 4.65 forty-yard dash, 4.46 shuttle, and a 7.36 L-cone. He also posted a 30” vertical.
