Last year, it was the offense that featured the stars at the B2G Elite Football Program. This year, the defense is the owner of the big names, with several stud linebackers and one of the best collections of defensive back talent B2G has ever had.
How talented?
The top two cornerbacks in the West and one of the top safeties in the West will be there along with two class of 2009 prospects who may well be the best players at their position in the region for their class. And several other highly regarded prospects will also be in the mix.
The top two corners in the region, Robert Golden from Edison HS in Fresno and Anthony Dye from Santiago HS in Corona will compete against each other again, following up their matchups at the L.A. Scout.com Combine, where they both were all-combine picks.
Several other strong cornerback prospects will be camping at B2G including Stanford-bound Steven Christian from Kennedy HS in Sacramento and Clint Floyd.
Crespi of Encino safety E.J. Woods will be there with several of his Celt teammates. Woods is a Scout.com Top 100 player and one of the more versatile defensive backs in the country.
Brandon Leslie, a three-star prospect from Edison will camp at B2G for the first time, and Leslie has had a strong spring and summer, bouncing back from a shoulder injury that robbed him of his junior season.
Some sleepers always emerge at B2G and a few of the guys we think fit that bill are Brenan Ghassemieh from Canyon HS in Anaheim, Ontario Colony teammates Daniel Simmons and Anthony Young, looking to follow in their teammate Omar Bolden’s footsteps (he was one of the top players last year) and Jonathan Warzeka from Temescal Canyon.
Two players that will become household names in the next two years are Fresno Edison cornerback Cliff Harris and safety Tim McDonald Jr. Both potentially are the top players at their position next year in the West, both earning all-combine honors in Los Angeles in April. In fact, Harris was one of the top sophomores at any Scout Combine this year.
Another 2009 prospect to watch is Memphis (Tenn.) Whitehaven safety Gene Robinson. And another out-of-state prospect to keep an eye on is Lincoln (Neb.) Southwest defensive back Micah Fisher.
From the linebacker spot, Norco (Calif.) linebacker Damion Whittington leads the field.
Dominic Bonetpels from Silverado in Victorville and Reuben Willis from Mayfair in Lakewood looked good at combines in the spring and will be looking to have strong showings at B2G as will Lincoln (Neb.) Southwest linebacker Graham Stoddard.
Scout.com will provide exclusive coverage the first two days of B2G and the camp, which runs from June 29-July 1st, which culminates on Sunday, the 1st with the A-Game.
