Penn Hills middle linebacker Dan Mason edged out (Medina/Ohio/Highland) linebacker Chris Snook and (Monroeville/Pa./Gateway) linebacker Dorian Bell for the MVP award at the Under Armour/Scout.com Combine held in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Snook was very impressive and narrowly missed out on the award. He checked in at 6-2.5 and weighed in at 220 pounds. He ran a 4.70 forty yard dash, 4.29 shuttle and a 7.50 L-Cone. He also registered a 31-inch vertical. He was very strong during the positional specific drills. He is an athletic player who shows outstanding burst. He can move well and he gets out into flats quickly.
Bell just continues to amaze everyone who sees him. Here is a five-star player who is ranked No. 1 at his position and he is out there busting his hump like he is a player trying to earn his first scholarship offer. Bell couldn’t test in every event, but he gave it his all in everything else and then some.
Mason checked in at 6-0 and a chiseled 218-pounds. He ran a 4.81 forty, which on the slow surface was more like a 4.65. He ran a 4.19 shuttle and a 7.43 L-Cone. He recorded a 9-9 broad jump and a 35-inch vertical. Mason was outstanding in coverage during the one on ones and he really excelled during the positional specific drills. This was Mason’s third consecutive trip to a Scout.com event and it paid off this year as he walked away with the MVP honors.
Following the combine, Mason informed us that he had been offered scholarships by Penn State, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Toledo. As soon as Mason’s tape gets out he should pick up plenty more offers.
