The Under Armour/Scout.com Combine came to the Lone Star State this past Saturday and athletes from three different states were represented. Plenty of athletes were on hand to validate their play on a college football team. Lets take a look at some of the top defensive skill players who were present.

Overall, the talent on the defensive side of the ball was plentiful and the skill guys on D (linebacker and defensive back) were simply outstanding.

Starting things off at linebacker, Texas commit Patrick Nkwopara was the one name that came up time and time again. The coaches simply loved him and Nkwopara displayed some major playmaking ability. From north of the border Anthony Morales from Edmond Memorial also impressed as was solid in the team drills.

Other standouts at linebacker were Mesquite’s Robert Lewis, Daniel Prior from Henderson and a sleeper Tevin Elliot from Mount Pleasant, one coach said Elliot aside from Nkwopara, had the best day of the bunch.

Moving to the secondary, the one name that keeps coming up time and time again is Craig Loston. Loston displays the speed and quick feet of a corner and the size of a linebacker and was clearly the top defensive back of the group. Loston who is known as a fierce hitter showed he’s also got a nose for the ball, as one writer described him, “He’s in a league of his own.” Another player from Oklahoma also made an impression as Javon Harris from Lawton MacArthur showed he has what it takes to not only be a solid free safety at the next level but he’s got hips and in a pinch could play some corner.

Mesquite’s Marcus Trice may have been the most talkative defensive back but he was also the top corner of the group. Trice showed a tremendous nose for the ball as he made several great breaks on passes headed in his direction. South Grand Prairie’s Thomas Ferguson also had a solid day showing he’s got all the tools necessary to be an impact player at the next level.
