![]() Joel Gray, our top offensive lineman on the day
|
18 offensive lineman were invited to the Under Armour/Scout.com combine in Dallas and all 18 made a good show of the day. However Scout.com breaks down the top six perfomers on the day and rank them 1-5 with our sleeper pick. | |||

Top five Performers Offensvie lineman:
1) Joel Gray - Hebron - Intensity is the name of Joel's game. He has ideal size with his 6'7 275- pound frame. One thing that is easily noticeable is that he does not cheat himself in any drill, he goes all out. Another notable trait is he is a perfectionist, he tries to do every drill perfectly. He has an inner drive that I love in football players, any slight defencies in one area or another will be made up for with intensity of effort. Great effort all the way around for Joel who tested okay but was the top lineman in the drills portion of the combine. His footwork on lateral drills was amazing especially for someone as big as he is.
2) Travis Swanson - Kingwood- each of the players in this group will have plenty of choices to pick from. Travis is in that group and came up with a top three performance among the linemen in two categories. In the drill where the linemen had to shuffle from side to side through the bags he looked particularly good with his ability to reverse direction, for a big man that is difficult. He has a nice frame to work with and should be able to hit 300 pounds in college and maintain quickness.
3) Tyler Stauch - Vilonia (Ark)- there were not too many players from out of state at the combine but Tyler was one of those who not only showed up but played big all day. On the testing he was in the top five in all but one category. In the drills he showed solid footwork and he put good work in each of the drills. He has a slight frame, for a lineman, so he will need to add bulk for the next level. He caught everyone's eye who watched the linemen, he moves very well and his footwork was solid as mentioned.
4) Josh Aladenoye - North Mesquite- Monster sized lineman, amazing thing is how smoothly he moved through the drills, he moved around on the balls of his feet and showed nice ability to go from side to side. Coming in at 340 the concern is footwork, and from watching him in video he did seem a bit slow in the feet. However he has shown to me that he has made improvements on his footwork. If he can continue to work on that area then his stock, which is already high, will go up any more.
5) Bobby Janisch - Jersey Village- Janisch did not do particularly bad or particularly good in any of the testing. From watching junior tape, his feet were okay but not great. After watching him go through the drills I feel he has picked up a step in his footwork. He showed good lateral movement and was above average in all the drills. He still has room to improve and if he does then the interest will pick up even more. He has that big body and frame that the schools love. Sleeper
Bryce Redman - Longview- he does not have the size a lot of the other players have, he is 6-foot-2, 240 pounds, but he was impressive in the drills. Name the drill and he looked good in it and he worked hard on all the drills. He had the fastest 40 time, the second best time in the L-cones, fifth best shuttle time, and sixth best standing broad jump. In other words he tested well. Combine that with his outstanding work in the drills and you have someone who should get some serious attention. He will have to get bigger and keep his quickness but he was impressive on the day, only difference between him and the top five OL's is size. |
