The competition was fierce for the top performers on the defensive line. In fact we decided to break the players into defensive end and defensive tackles. The big men performed like the talents they are but the top players were Dent and Okafor among the defensive linemen.

Top three Performers defensive ends:

Alex Okafor Pflugerville

1) Alex Okafor - Pflugerville - only tested in the standing broad jump but got the fourth best jump among linemen. Okafor had nothing to prove in this combine but he still looked good. He has no body fat and is a very solid 229, I should hit 245 easily in college. All the drills he handled with ease and just looks the part of a college lineman.

Radermon Scypion Port Arthur Memorial

2) Rademon Scypion - Port Arthur- leadership skills are often tough to see at a combine but Rademon was the first in line for the drills and kept himself up front. He moved well and excellerated at those drills that are more DL in nature, he was okay in the OL drills. A slight bit smaller than Okafor he does not have the build to get to 250 without having problems but I think he can get to 230 maybe 240 without problems. Fast feet and quick on the drills he has great acceleration also. I think he could play DE but I think he could also end up going to DT in college if he gains significant weight. He might be a better DT than DE because of his quickness would create problems in the inside.

Chris Knighton Longview

3) Chris Knighton - Longview- One of the smaller defensive linemen he still excelled on the day. He had the second best 40 time, the top L-cone time, second best shuttle and the top standing broad jump. He is athletic and can flat out move and has weak-side end written all over him. He looked very sharp in the various drills and especially in the drill where you slide step around the hoop. Knighton is not a major player on the map right now but he should be a player who will have some chances at some mid-tier colleges and possibly better depending on the right fit.

Sleeper

Justin Rochon Wheatley

Justin Rochon - Houston Wheatley- he tested very well with the top 40 time, third best L-cone, and the fifth best shuttle. He did not do as well in the drills, he was trying to find his way in the drills and you could tell he was not as used to them as some of the other players.

Top three Performers defensive tackles:

Randall Dent South Grand Prairie

1) Randall Dent - South Grand Prarie- finished second in the 40 among the DT's and second in the shuttle. However the drills is where he took off at. He was smooth and moved very well in the dl drills but I felt he looked pretty good in OL drills also. The question on Dent will be offensive or defensive tackle. I like him as both, probably slightly better on offensive side of the ball. He is a big body that can add weight with little to no problem.

Jay Guy Aldine Eisenhower

2) Jay Guy - Aldine Eisenhower- easily had the best shuttle time among the defensive tackles. Guy excelled in drills and looks the part of a future college player. Sophomores are hard pressed to equal juniors in size and ability because their lack of varsity time but Guy held his own.

3) Troy Lawson - El Campo- off the map because of his lack of height, 5-11, he had the best 40 time among the defensive tackles by far, 5.00. His shuttle was a top 4 time and he showed some major springs with a 8-11 standing broad jump. Solid play in the drills but it did not quite match his performance on the testing. He has major improvement left so he could get much better.
