When people watched Jamal Reid's highlight tape they often saw him hauling in deep touchdown passes, few knew who that QB was, that has now changed. Nick Bracewell has impressed at every place he has been this offseason with his big time arm. Glades Central's L.J. Thomas was part of the two headed QB system that made “Team Palm Beach” the undefeated champions of the 7on7 competition in Tampa. Seabreeze's Matt Thompson should be one of the top all around performer's in the event.
A few running backs should be competing for the most valuable player award this week. Fleming Island's Malcolm Jones can be as electrifying as any back in the state. Gulf's Bubba Golden had a sensational junior campaign that saw him set many area records. Antwon Chisolm's versatility should be on display. A member of the Classification 6A State Champions, Toby Durham will also be in attendance to show he is the best in the state on his own merits. The rising senior had many beautiful runs in Seminole's comeback victory over Miami Northwestern.
Plenty of top wideouts will be attendance. Jarvis West should be one of the fastest players at the event. Pahokee team mates DeJoshua Johnson and Fred Pickett are as good as any tandem in the state. Bolles’ Jay Herndon has made a ton of big plays for the State Champion. O.J. Ross is viewed as one of the top slot prospects in the Sunshine State heading into next year. Ross should be top 5 in the 40 yard dash. A pair of big time 2011 prospects will be much anticipated: Samuel Watkins and Prince Holloway. Watkins, the younger brother of Jaylen, might be the top prospect in the state in 2011, while Holloway is as quick and fast as any player who will be attendance. UF commit Michael McFarland headlines a strong group of tight ends.
Plenty of the big guys will be in attendance as well. Some of the more intriguing names are Colton Odom, Gage Baxter, Raymond Nixon , Tramell Williams, Kenneth Kirksey, and James Hall.
Ultra talented B.J. Butler headlines the LB group. The one man wrecking crew is as physically gifted of LB as any that has come out of the state in the past 3-4 years. Gainesville's Kevin Nelson, Lakeland's Quayshawn Nealy, and Orange Parks' Demetre Baker all are high D-1 recruits who have received plenty of attention on the recruiting trail.
As usual an outstanding group of DB's will be in attendance. No state consistently produces the high end quality that the Sunshine State does. Some who will attend are Tyler Blandin, Gary Gainer, Greg Dent, Travis Bell, Ricardo Allen, Joe Johnson, Shaq Bell, Nick Waisome, Jayestin Boston, Jameson Wright, and Dallas Crawford. Crawford, Allen, Boston, and Johnson had tremendous weekends in Tampa for the 7on7.
It should be a lot of fun watching the area's top athletes test and compete in drill, one-on-ones and seven-on-sevens.
