The FoxSports / Scout.com Combine tour makes a stop in the Big Easy on Sunday, and the scouts will have plenty of talent to evaluate at Pan American Stadium in New Orleans.
More than 200 prospects for 2010, 2011 and even 2012 are expected to participate in a variety of events with six states being represented.
The crop of quarterbacks looks to be the deepest and most talented group that we’ve ever assembled in all the years of conducting combines in New Orleans.
Headlining the list is Louisiana gun slingers
Terrance Broadway
and
Munchie Legaux
, who both hold multiple offers from BCS schools.
Claude Johnson
, who holds an offer from
Ole Miss
, is scheduled to make the long haul from Pine Bluff, Ark., while
Dylan Favre
will make the drive over from the Gulf Coast of Mississippi.
One of the nation’s finest receivers will be catching passes from the quarterbacks on Sunday in Scout.com’s No. 2 ranked wide out
Trovon Reed
. Joining Reed, will be several receivers from the Bayou State that are racking up offers in
James Wright
,
Daryl Surgent
and
Glen Coleman
.
The Magnolia State will be well represented as well with four receivers that have offers putting their skills on display in
Steve McNair
,
Jay Hughes
,
Robert Johnson
and
Vincent Sanders
, along with Texas standout
Damian Payne
.
Louisiana has two of the top wide receivers in the country for 2011 in
Jarvis Landry
and
Levander Liggins
, and both will see how they stack up compared to some of the nation’s best for 2010.
The defensive backs will have their hands full in the one on one drills with Louisiana’s top three corners
Jonathan McKnight
,
Andre Hal
and
Karl Butler
taking center stage.
Tharold Simon
will get some work on both sides of the ball as the
LSU
commit will show that he can catch passes as well as defend them.
Speaking of 2011,
Kenny Hilliard
is regarded by some as the top running back in the country and he will compete with Louisiana’s top back for 2010 in
James Gillum
, along with another pair of big time backs for 2011 in
Alfred Blue
and
Jeremy Hill
.
Running backs get a lot of work at combines on catching the ball out of the backfield, and that gives scouts a good look at linebackers.
One of Alabama’s top linebackers will be under the microscope in
Barry James
, along with several more including
Seth Ancar
,
Taurice King
,
Brandon Keel
and
Wade Wells
.
Linemen may not get as much attention as the skill position players do, but that will change on Sunday.
The potential for some great matchups in one on one drills exists with the abundance of talent on both sides of the ball.
Offensive linemen
Wes Rea
,
Ryan Zellar
,
Charles Barkins
, La’el Collins, Joel Cunningham and Shaun Coleman are just a few that will be tested by some talented defensive ends and tackles in
Houston Bates
,
Walker Ashburn
,
Risean Broussard
,
Travis Dickson
,
Anthony Johnson
, Elliott Porter amongst others.
It’s impossible to mention every prospect heading into the combine, but that will change in the coming weeks as Scout.com brings you tons of coverage on the New Orleans Combine beginning Sunday night.
