We did not know what to expect at last season’s Baltimore combine, but we were quickly shown that there is talent and plenty of speed in the area. Davon Smith and Caleb Porzel amazed everyone with their sub 4.3 forty times. Last year, the talent was great. This year it may be even better.

At quarterback there aren’t any big names or guys who are holding twenty or more offers, but there are some very talented gunslingers that could surprise some people. Billy Cosh from nearby Arundel has been offered by Kansas State. Cosh threw for close to 4,000 yards last season. Malik Stokes (Philadelphia/Pa./Northeast) doesn’t get the pub that his bigger brother Malik used to get, but he is worth it. Stokes is a very smooth pocket-passer who has a lot to prove. Bo Revell (Haymarket/Va./Battlefield) may be one of the biggest signal callers we will see this year at 6-foot-6 and 225-pounds. Ricardo Young from (Washington/D.C./H.D. Woodson claims offers from Maryland and Syracuse among others, despite lacking ideal size. Rasheem Jones will make the trip all the way from (Aliquippa/Pa.) just to show his skills. Jones is raw, but he is impressive. Devonte Lindsey from nearby Suitland is also a local player looking to make a name for himself.

The running backs, ironically are led by fullback Zach Zwinak (Linganore). The 6-2, 225-pound bull of a lead blocker has a number of offers including California, Maryland, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Virginia Tech and West Virginia among others. Also on hand will be Gwynn Park standout Khalek Shepherd the son of former Washington Redskin wide receiver Leslie Shepherd. Shepherd has offers from Maryland, Boston College and Connecticut. Some speed merchants to watch will be Dejor Simmons (Virginia Beach/Va./Green Run) and Antwione Reese (Waldorf/Md./Westlake).

The wide receiver position is loaded with a ton of talent led by Adrian Coxson from nearby Baltimore City College. Coxson has a plethora of offers from the likes of Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State and Pittsburgh among others. Kevin Weatherspoon will be making the trip from (Clairton/Pa.). Weatherspoon holds an offer from Pittsburgh. Brendon Felder is as exciting of a player as we have seen this year. He will be making the trip from (Monroeville/Pa./Gateway) with a handful of teammates. (Hazlet/N.J./Raritan) standout Bennett Jackson holds offers from Iowa, Notre Dame, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Syracuse. Five-star Shakim Phillips (Wayne/N.J./DePaul Catholic) will be out to see how good his hands are coming back from an injury. Phillips holds offers from Arizona, Pittsburgh, Boston College, Rutgers, Connecticut, Duke, Maryland and Vanderbilt. Two sleepers to keep an eye on are (Fairless Hills/Pa./Pennsbury) Eric Williams and Milford Mill wide receiver Tyreek Cheeseboro. Williams tore up the Badger 7v7 camp at Rutgers. Cheeseboro claims offers from Maryland and Pittsburgh. Maryland commit Sean Fitzpatrick will make the trip from (Pittsford/N.Y./Mendon) to showcase his skills.

When it comes to a nice looking set of bookend tackles none are bigger than Tuscarora’s Hansen Barrick at 6-6 and 310-pounds and Robby Havenstein from Linganore at 6-7 and 310-pounds. Barrick holds an offer from East Carolina, while Havenstein has been offered by Kansas State, Maryland, Penn State, Stanford and West Virginia. Vinh Vuong is a very solid interior line prospect from (State College/Pa.). These guys will have their hands full with a very good crop of defensive linemen.

Three of the top defensive linemen in the nation will be on display at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday led by defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd (Philadelphia/Pa./George Washington) who holds offers from Rutgers, Maryland, Penn State, Stanford, UCLA, Temple and Florida International. Defensive tackle J.R. Ferguson from nearby St. John’s Prospect Hall will try and show why he is so highly touted. Ferguson holds offers from Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Pittsburgh. Zack McCray from (Lynchburg/Va./Brookville) is one of the top Defensive ends in the nation with a bunch of offers from the likes of North Carolina, LSU, Michigan, UCLA, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. Washington (D.C.) will be represented by a pair of run stuffing defensive tackles Andre Monroe from St. John’s College and Charles Tillman from Dunbar. Monroe holds offers from Maryland and New Mexico, while Tillman has been offered by New Mexico as well.

A deep linebacker corp is led by another big time prospect Nick Forbes (Thomas Johnson) who holds a number of offers and is a Top 300 player. Troy Gloster (Olney/Md./Good Counsel). Gloseter has offers from Boston College, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Josh Alaeze (Parkwood) holds offers from New Mexico, West Virginia and Wake Forest. (Washington/D.C./Dunbar) Javarie Johnson holds offers from Connecticut, Iowa, Maryland, New Mexico and West Virginia. The ever impressive Manessah Garner from (Pittsburgh/Pa./Brashear) will make the trip holding offers from Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota and Pittsburgh. (Ramsey/N.J./Don Bosco Prep) standout Ryan Cobb has offers from Harvard and Virginia. Two sleepers to keep an eye on are Jeff Dobbins (Pittsburgh/Pa./Canevin) and Marcus Anderson (Waldorf/Md./Westlake).

The secondary will have their hands full, but with a talented roster of standouts like these it should be no problem. Josh Furman of nearby Old Mill has offers from Duke, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh and Virginia Tech. (Olney/Md./Good Counsel) cornerback Louis Young a one time Stanford commit holds offers from Stanford, Boston College, Maryland, North Carolina, Stanford, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Wake Forest. Another solid player from Good Counsel who will be showcasing his talents is Frank Tamakloe who holds offers from Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, West Virginia and Wisconsin. Maryland commit Titus Till (Henry Wise) will show why the Terps were on him so early. (Washington/D.C./H.D. Woodson cornerback Don Hursey recently picked up his first offer from North Carolina and he wants more. Gateway standouts Dayonne Nunley and Orne Bey are making the trip down from Monroeville (Pa.) for some more competition. A sleeper in this group could be Colton Charles from (Harrisburg/Pa./Central Dauphin).

Every good combine has its share of talented underclassmen and this one will be no different. (Pottsgrove/Pa.) is home to two very talented youngsters Maika Polamalu and Terrell Chestnut. This dynamic duo is out to make a name for themselves. Another player that turned heads at the Badger 7v7 was Demetrius Nicholson from Salem, Virginia. Local prospect Kevin McReynolds (St. John’s College) is an up and coming star according to head coach Joe Patterson. Delonte Edwards took over the reigns at quarterback for Ballou when Emmanuel Yeager left and assistant coach Todd Amis says that he is the real deal. (Eriel (N.J.) Timber Creek) speed demon Damiere Byrd made headline this Spring when he ran a (4.32) at a combine in New Jersey.
