BALTIMORE, MD - - Usually it takes us about a day or so to process all the results and to discuss how a handful of the athletes that participated in an event did before we award an MVP. On Sunday, it didn’t take much deliberation as Brendon Felder made sure he was taking the award home to Pittsburgh with him.

After watching testing and then the one-on-ones I knew without a doubt that Brendon Felder was winning the MVP award for the Scout.com Combine in Baltimore, but just for the sake of making sure everything was fair I had to ask my co-workers and the high school coaches working the event what their opinion was.

The Scout.com analysts and site specific publishers were all in agreement that on this day, Felder was simply on another level. The high school coaches didn’t hesitate to name Felder as the runaway winner of the MVP award. As the combine Head Coach Terry Smith gave his speech at the end of the event he called me up to give my two cents and I announced “Brendon Felder is the MVP” and there was no argument or discussion, even the players knew.

Felder narrowly missed out on winning the award at our Pittsburgh event, but this time he left no doubt in anyone’s mind. There were other outstanding performances turned in by players such as Adrian Coxson, Josh Furman and Sharrif Floyd, but Felder was just a little bit better on this day.

A lot of people tend to think the MVP award is always given to one of the players who are holding a bunch of scholarship offers, but as Felder can attest that is not always the case. The talented wide receiver from (Monroeville/Pa./Gateway) is still waiting for his first written scholarship offer.

“I don’t worry about it too much.” Felder said. “My time will come. I’m very honored and I feel blessed to be named the MVP. There were a lot of great players here and I just tried to do my best.”

It shouldn’t take much longer for college coaches to start to realize that this kid is legit. This is the second Scout.com Combine he has basically owned. He also was easily one of the top players in attendance at the Badger Sport 7v7 Tournament at Ohio State. Right now, he is arguably the biggest under-the-radar prospect on the East Coast.

Felder measured in at 5-foot-10 and 163-pounds. He ran a 4.37 forty-yard dash and excelled in the position specific drills. The one-on-ones is where Felder separated himself from the rest of the pack. He simply could not be covered. He would not allow defensive backs to jam him at the line of scrimmage. If they did he got separation. He has game changing speed and that rare extra gear that all the good ones seem to have. If a defensive back was stride for stride with him he just seemed to kick it in and glide by them. His hands are outstanding as we didn’t seem him drop a pass. If his hands touched it he caught it.
