With over 200 prospects in attendance picking one who stood out above the others is no easy task. There were a number of players who could have easily won the award like Charlie Russell, Andrew Dailey, Nick Schepis, Vic Anderson, Darren Evans, C.J. Peake and a number of others. The consensus was that Chris Givens just stood out a little more than the rest.

Chris Givens of Chillicothe, Ohio had us all disappointed at first when he did not show up. The frowns turned upside down as Givens entered the facility about 20 minutes into the combine. He checked in at very solid 6-2.5/186 pounds. He ran a 4.62 forty-yard dash, 4.25 shuttle, 6.99 L-Cone and posted a 33” vertical.

Givens came into the combine holding a few offers from the likes of Cincinnati, Miami (Ohio), Kent State and Ohio. One would guess that a few more will be coming his way after Saturday’s performance at Louisville.

The talented receiver showed his skills during the group drills and one-on-ones. He comes out of his breaks as effortlessly as anyone you’ll see. He has very strong hands and great ball skills. If you see a pass come near Givens, odds are he will haul it in.

The only times Givens had any trouble was if the quarterbacks couldn’t get him the ball or once against arguably the best defensive back C.J. Peake battled him. Peake plays press-coverage as good as anyone in the nation. Once he jams you, you don’t get away.
