College recruiters come to Florida all around the country to recruit the speed
the region produces. They wouldn't have been disappointed with the showing
at the Scout.com Combine held at the Jacksonville Jaguar practice facility in
conjunction with NHSASC.com.
With close to 180 of the elite players in the area on hand, there were some
terrific performances expected, but I'm not sure anyone expected a 6-0 and 205 pound
running back to rip off a 4.35/4.40 in his two forty yard dash attempts as Jamie Harper of Trinity Christian did. Harper showed that he was more than a straight
line runner as 4.28 shuttle and 37 inch vertical jump displayed explosion as
well as straight line speed.
Jerome Swinton of Seabreeze and Travis Arnold of Madison County tied for the two
fastest forties on the day at 4.31.
Connor Thompson of Chiles ran exceptionally well turning in a 4.53 at 6-1.5 and
206 pounds, being the second fastest player at the combine behind Harper who
tipped the scales at over 200.
Safety Ricky Schwarz of Seabreeze had the fastest 20 yard shuttle on the day. He
measured 6-0.5 and 170 pounds and recorded 4.06 in the shuttle (pro-agility).
The three cone drill, or L-Cone, is a drill the NFL has used for years that
tests change of direction in multiple directions rather than just side to side.
Five players broke the seven second barrier, akin to breaking 4.4 in the forty.
Wide Receiver Jeremy Brown of Boone paced the thee cone with a scorching 6.81
time.
Wide receiver Jon Lockhart of Blountstown must be an awful lot of fun to watch
on the basketball court. At 5-11.5 and 184 pounds, Lockhart posted a 41 inch
vertical jump to lead all participants.
Carlos Holton of Baker County and Lerentee McCray of Dunnellon both broke the
vaunted 10 foot mark in the broad jump with a leap of 10'1".
