Peoria Centennial guard’s fiery spirit and take no prisoners attitude lands him the MVP trophy in Phoenix.

It has become commonplace for the top prospects to not compete in the combine testing and opt only to perform in football drills. This was not the case for Peoria (Az.) Centennial offensive guard Dylan Lusk this Saturday at Glendale Community College. This kid is a gamer, a fighter and always up for a challenge and Lusk took his competitive nature, participated in all of the combine testing and put on a show in the one on one portion that was unrivaled in any combine that I have been fortunate enough to be at.

Lusk measured in at 6-3 and weighed 294 pounds, up from the 270 pounds he played at last year, and still rattled off an impressive 5.22 in the forty. The rest of his testing numbers were respectable but what won Lusk the MVP award was his performance in the pass rush session.

This wild-child came to the line of scrimmage with enthusiasm and tenacity, slapping his face and grunting and growling. But believe me, this was not a case of all bark and no bite, Lusk was a beast, only taking one loss in the one on ones all day. Lusk’s fiery spirit was contagious as Saturday’s event drew out the best in everyone who took part.

So where does Lusk get this demeanor from? He explains, “Off the field I am a nice guy but when I get on the field, I will smash you or die trying. I get this adrenaline and drive and I can’t accept losing. My Dad’s side of the family is all like this and it is all packed down inside me.”

Centennial offensive line coach Joe McDonald has been in the trenches himself, playing offensive line for the University of Arizona in the 90’s, thus he knows the value of a player such as Lusk. “Dylan practices like he plays,” McDonald states. “He brings excitement not only to our games but to our practices. He ignites the offense and the scout team. He is just out there having fun.”

On the recruiting front, Lusk has only been offered by UNLV but says he is hearing from a multitude of schools including Cal, Arizona State, Nebraska, New Mexico, San Diego State, Washington, Arizona, Oregon, Colorado and Colorado State. He says that all of these schools are anxious to get him into summer camp and he feels this could lead to more offers. “I am going to as many camps as I can and I know they will offer after they see me there,” he says.

If Lusk performs like he did Saturday at these camps, expect him to be one of the most coveted offensive line prospects in the southwest.
