| Thornton is a strong interior defensive lineman. He is good against the run and he gets good penetration to collapse the pocket against the pass. His biggest strength might be his hands – he has very strong punch and does not allow many offensive linemen to engage their hands into his body. | Thornton was a standout performer at the Scout.com Atlanta combine showing great quickness and agility for a defensive tackle. As a junior, Thornton racked up 95 total tackles including 49 solos, three sacks, one fumble recovered and one fumble caused.Thornton was named 1st team All-region in region 2 of Georgia 5A. He also made 1st-team all county. He says he can bench 350-pounds and squat 475.
Final senior (11-1) stats: 80 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, seven sacks, three fumbles recovered and two fumbles caused
Thornton plans on majoring in business administration or communications. He reports a 3.1 core GPA and a 1280 SAT.
Thornton: “I’m quick and have great instincts. I’m a good leader too. I’m an aggressive-type defensive player.
“I’m trying to improve on my moves. I’m working on getting my spin down. Also my rip and swim too.”
